In this video, I'm building a unique wall storage system for my workshop. Instead of traditional pegboard, I'm creating a system with elongated holes that can be customized with laser-cut components.
Why Pegboard?
I initially considered building cabinets, but I decided against it due to budget constraints and a desire for a more open and visually appealing solution. This pegboard system offers excellent visibility, making it easy to find and access my tools.
The Process
I started by designing the pegboard holes in Lightburn. After some initial testing, I finalized the size and shape to ensure a snug fit for the hooks and other accessories.
Next, I cut the 1/4" Aspen plywood into 3x2 sections and used the laser to create the grid of holes. For the shelves, I glued a second layer of plywood on top to increase the thickness and strength.
For the hooks, I designed and laser-cut small pieces of wood that fit perfectly into the elongated holes. These hooks can be used individually or in combination to support heavier items.
Advantages of This System:
- Cost-effective: Using readily available plywood and laser-cutting the components kept the overall cost low.
- Visibility: The open design makes it easy to see and access all my tools.
- Flexibility: The system can be easily customized to accommodate different tools and accessories.
Disadvantages:
- Dust Exposure: The open nature of the system means tools are more exposed to dust and debris.
Overall, I'm very happy with how this wall storage system turned out. It's functional, visually appealing, and a great example of how a little creativity and some basic woodworking skills can go a long way.
Thanks for watching
